Sexual violence: the Privacy Guarantor and the "stop" to the dissemination of too many details in the media

“In recent days, the Privacy Guarantor has banned the media from publishing information that, even indirectly, makes the victim of sexual violence identifiable. The publication of such information is in fact contrary not only to the code of ethics of journalists in terms of privacy, but also to the legislation on the protection of personal data and the Criminal Code, which grant special protection to victims of this type of crime.

In case of non-compliance with the prohibition, the data controller, in this case the publisher, may also incur the new administrative sanctions introduced by the European Regulation. Therefore, strengthened protections also on a legislative level for victims of sexual violence and greater legal and ethical responsibilities for publishers, journalists and operators in the world of information”.

I trust my dear friend Prof. Ruben Razzante, author of the article, and I hope that this is exactly the case.

Let's avoid cases of secondary victimization.
