“Meloni law” approved. Baby-safety seats mandatory from July 1, 2019

Finally an important step forward for the safety of the little ones.

Already passed by the House, the Senate has now also approved a bill that was necessary in order to prevent and avoid the involuntary abandonment of children inside locked cars.

Too many times (in Italy 8 children have died in 10 years), we have witnessed the mental blackout of one of the parents who, distracted by the problems of daily life, “forgot” the child in the car.

This is a specific pathology, dissociative amnesia, a memory lapse that has unfortunately caused the most serious of consequences.

Therefore, from July 1, 2019, anyone with children under 4 years of age will have to equip themselves with a safety device that will signal the presence of the minor inside the vehicle. This consists of a light and an acoustic device that will warn of the presence of the child when the car turns off.

Therefore, in addition to seat belts and child seats, the Highway Code will also penalize the failure to use these safety devices. In fact, a fine of €81 to €326 and suspension of the driving license from 15 days to 2 months is foreseen for those who violate the obligation more than once in a two-year period.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport will establish the technical characteristics of the alarm system within sixty days. In order to facilitate the purchase of the aforementioned devices, tax breaks will be provided.

Now that's a good law!
